Meeting Monday and Painting Fun Spot!

Hello Brownie parents!

Our next meeting is Monday, Nov. 21. Anna is bringing snack.

For the December meeting (Dec. 5), we thought it would be fun to take a trip to Painting Fun Spot (where we made ornaments last year). It's located at the shopping center at the corner of Scott and Illinois Rd. Here's a map for those of you who have never been there. http://bit.ly/t4Ika6

The troop has enough funds to cover the entire cost of the trip, so all you need to do is drop off your Brownie at 6:30. We'll be done by 7:30, as usual.

That meeting in December is our last meeting before the holidays. After that, we'll see you again in January (the 9th). Cookie sales officially start the following week! I am not yet sure whether we'll have cookies available for pick up at that meeting, or if you'll be picking them up at the following one, so please check back here for updates. I'm also planning to have the cookie booth at the Scotts at Chestnut Plaza (Scott & Illinois Rd). We'll do it two Saturdays in a row, hopefully right after cookie sales start. I'll have a sign up sheet at the first meeting in January. Please be sure to sign up! All cookie sales the group makes are divided equally between the girls that attend the booth, and those sales count toward your daughter's total cookie sales. This translates into Cookie Cash!

More details will follow. See you Monday night!

Cookie Kick-Off!

It's Cookie Kick-Off time! Cookie Kick-Off is a fun get together with other Daisy and Brownie scouts in the SWAC area to get fired up for cookie season. This event is planned by Cadette and Senior Girl Scouts, so it's also a fun time for the younger girls to see older Girl Scouts in action.

This year's Cookie Kick-Off will be held Friday, December 2 at Aldersgate Church (2417 Getz Rd). The cost is $3 per girl. The girls will earn a badge for going.

Parents are welcome to come, no charge, but the people in charge ask that you not stand around in the rooms chatting on the phone, since the rooms are small and it would be distracting.

I'll have forms at the next meeting if you'd like to sign up. Space is limited--they're about half full already, so if you know you want to come, please email me at huff.kristin@gmail.com and I'll reserve a spot for your daughter.

Last night's meeting/Delete a date

We had lots of fun at last night's meeting. The girls painted a mural of girls around the world. We managed to got only a little paint on the walls and floor, and everyone had fun!

I had scheduled a meeting for April 2, but Lindsey pointed out this is the week of spring break for FWCS. So we're cancelling that meeting. If you had it on your calendar, you can delete it!

Also, I finally updated the snack schedule, so you can see what day you've signed up for over on the right.

November? Already?

It's true, it's November. And we have a meeting coming up on Monday, so we hope to see you there! The girls will be earning their painting badge. It's going to be a great time, and possibly messy (you think?), so have the girls wear old clothes. Cate Bilodeau is bringing snack.

Our next meeting after that is the Monday of Thanksgiving week. I debated choosing that day because I wasn't sure how many people would actually be able to make it. Let us know what you think on Monday, okay? If no one is going to be able to make it, we can always cancel that meeting.

See you Monday!

We will be making smoothies and a Halloween craft on Monday the 17th. It's going to be a blast! Snack is being provided by Jessica. See you then!

Hello Troop 20048!

We had a great meeting this past Monday. Our next meeting is this coming Monday, October 3rd. This is the only time we meet two weeks in a row.

It looks like we have a much smaller group of girls this year -- only 9 last week, with two more coming that I'm aware of. So, we have plenty of space in the room and parents are welcome to stay for the meetings. The snack parent can stay or not stay and help with crowd control. This smaller group is much more manageable for two leaders. And if you do stay during the meeting, feel free to jump in and help whenever the mood strikes you. We always appreciate the extra hands.

The Girl Scouts are turning 100 years this year, and Camp McMillen is hosting four events to celebrate Girl Scout heritage. The first event is October 28/29 at Camp McMillen. Sophie and I are going, and it's open to troops and parents. The flyer is here.

I think it sounds like a fun day, so we'll be there and we hope to see you too. Sign-up is on your own, not through the troop, so contact Erica Taylor at the phone/email at the bottom of the flyer if you're interested. The overnight is optional--you can make it just a day thing on Saturday if you want.

See you Monday!

WELCOME BACK!

School is starting, and you know what that means...it's Girl Scout time!

As you probably know, our lovely troop leaders Jenn, Becky, and Annette have moved on. Lindsey Wolfe and I will be co-leaders. Our meetings will still be held at the same time and same place: Monday nights, from 6:30 to 7:30 at Fire Station #19 at the corner of Scott and Covington Rd. Our first meeting will be September 26th.

Like last year, we have may girls in a small space. For the first meeting, you're welcome to stay or go. For the other meetings, we're asking parents not to stick around, because the room is crowded.

As you'll recall, when our girls get together for meetings they can get a wee bit crazy. Therefore, we're asking each parent to stay for at least one other meeting at some point during the year. As we've done in the past, we will pass around a sign-up form for bringing snack. On the night that your daughter is bringing snack, we'd like for you to stay too, to help out with that particular meeting.

If your daughter was a member of last year's troop, you should already have registration paperwork. Please fill it out and bring it with you to the first meeting. (Seriously, if you bring your registration to the first meeting, we will think you are fabulous.)

If you've lost your paperwork or if this is your daughter's first year with our troop, we will be handing out registration forms at the first meeting. To join our troop for the year, you will need to complete:
  • A Girl Registration form with $12 Girl Scouts registration fee (checks payable to GSNIM)
  • A Girl Health History form
Troop dues for the year will be $15. This money is used to cover the cost of craft supplies/materials and help offset the cost of some events. Checks can be made payable to Troop 20048.

Adults may register too! In fact, if you are a parent that plans to drive girls to events or serve on a troop committee, you should register as well. You will need to complete:
  • An Adult Registration form with $12 registration fee
  • An Adult Health History form (checks to GSNIM)
Girls can wear their Brownie sashes to the meeting. If you don't have a sash, you can buy one at the council store (just off I-69 at the Dupont exit). They will give you a nifty handout that shows what you should have on the sash and where it goes on the sash. You can buy everything you need for the sash at the store.

This year the girls will be following Journeys to earn badges (also known as Try-Its or Awards). We have chosen "A World of Girls" for this year. The Journey books are available at the council store. We are not requiring girls to have their own Journey books, but they are fun to use. You can look through the Journey books at the store when you're deciding whether or not to buy one. Also, in September the store will have available "The Girl's Guide to Girl Scouting," a guide book for the years the girls are in Brownies. Again, council recommends each girl get one, though they are not required.

If you ever have a question about the troop in general or what we're planning, please feel free to call me at 432-6935. See you on the 26th!

Bridging Ceremony - May 16

It's so hard to believe that we are at the end of our first-grade year! Please join us at our May 16 meeting for a bridging ceremony, in which the girls will officially become Girl Scout Brownies! Parents and siblings are welcome to attend. Don't forget your camera!

Build-A-Bear Party

The girls decided at our last meeting to treat themselves to a Build-A-Bear Party. It will be Monday, May 23 from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Please plan to meet outside the store entrance about 6:20 p.m. The troop will cover the cost of a furry friend/outfit for each girl. If you need help with transportation, please contact one of the troop leaders.

Meeting reminder

We have a special meeting scheduled for Monday, April 18!

We will meet at the Jorgensen YMCA from 5 to 7 p.m. Please meet inside the Y at 5 p.m. so we can divide the girls into two groups.

One group will then head outside and pick up trash at the Indian Trails Park (weather permitting) because Girl Scouts make the world a better place! The second group will have a chance to climb the rock wall and enjoy a snack indoors. At the end of the first hour, the two groups will swap activities.

If you have any questions or need to arrange a carpool, please contact one of the leaders.

It's camping time!

Mark your calendars ... we're planning a FUN troop excursion to Camp McMillen on Saturday, June 4!

We'll share more details as they become available, but for now, our plan is to meet at Deer Ridge about 9 a.m. that morning and caravan up to camp together. (Camp McMillen is in Huntertown, about 30 minutes from southwest Allen County.) Then, we'll spend the day hiking, doing crafts, singing campfire songs and roasting marshmallows! After an evening campfire, we'll return to Deer Ridge. Parents are strongly encouraged to join us for this event.

Please stay tuned for more info ...

This year's Father-Daughter Dance will be from 7 to 9 p.m. on Feb. 5 at Memorial Coliseum.
