Make-up Activities for Petals

If your daughter can't attend a meeting in which we complete the requirements to earn a petal, it's no problem at all. Simply check with one of the leaders to see which petal she needs to make up, and then complete the corresponding activity below. (These are merely suggestions. If you have a better activity idea, that's fine, too!)

Please submit something in writing (or email) to let us know what your daughter did (a few short sentences will do the trick). We want to be sure she gets credit for the activity and earns her petal!

Light Blue – Honest and Fair
·     Have a family game night. Talk about what it’s like to play with someone who likes to bend the rules. Explain why it’s important to be honest and play fair.

Yellow – Friendly and Helpful
·     Have your Daisy scout do a special chore or job around the house. Perhaps she could set the table, empty the trash or wipe down doorknobs with a Lysol wipe.

Light Green – Considerate and Caring
·     Help your Daisy scout do a “good deed” for a neighbor. Have her help carry groceries, pull weeds, feed pets, etc.

Red – Courageous and Strong
·     Volunteer to do something that can be a little scary, like standing in front of a group to speak or conquering a new skill (riding a bike without training wheels or swimming the length of a pool). Talk about courage and how it helps us get stronger in our hearts and minds.

Orange – Responsible for What I Say and Do
·     Make a list of family “rules” and talk about the importance of teamwork.
·     Copy a picture from a coloring book and have your Daisy scout color the picture. Crumble the paper and then ask her to smooth out the picture. Explain that the wrinkles don’t go away completely, just like unkind words can leave a mark on a friend.

Purple – Respect Myself and Others
·     Talk about personal hygiene (brushing teeth, washing face, etc) and why it’s important.  Make a “care package” for a friend or someone at a women’s shelter. Include things like toothpaste, toothbrushes, hairbrushes, wet wipes, soap, etc.

Magenta – Respect Authority
·     Talk about parents and teachers and how they try to keep kids safe. Discuss the importance of obeying rules. Read the book “Officer Buckle and Gloria” by Peggy Rathmann (available at the Allen County Public Library)

Green – Use Resources Wisely
·     Recycle at home. Do a craft w/ recycled objects (bottle caps, milk cartons, etc.)

Rose – Make the World a Better Place
Make a pine cone bird feeder or plant a flower and give it to a neighbor or friend.

Violet – Be a Sister to Every Girl Scout
·     Find another Daisy to be a pen pal or secret friend. This might include exchanging post cards or emails. Plan a playdate with another Daisy Scout (or any other friend, for that matter).
